the revolution will be visualized....

I've always had a problem identifying with the Black Panthers. In no way can I condone or be comfortable associating myself or beliefs with a group that fights their struggle with violence.

In fact i purposefully shy away from Malcolm X quotes and reading about the Black Panthers.

However I was given this book - Black Panther : The Revolutionary Art of Emory Douglas

....and my opposition to the Blank Panther movement softened.

NO I'm not condoning the violence... but I do understand their mission a bit more.

It's hard to imagine the appalling inequality that existed no more than 50 years ago, when slavery was outlawed, segregation was the law in some states and 'Negroes' were still being hung or even burnt for their skin colour.

Douglas' imagery is distinctive, eye catching, militant and carries a message that defined a movement that has enabled us to live in a world where we are potentially a week away from Barack Obama becoming President of the United States.

His work is a poignant reminder of how far the social integrity of the world has moved.

A history lesson...

.... that still carries a message for today.

Black Panther: Emory Douglas and the Art of Revolution is now showing at Manchester's Urbis Centre until March '09...

Lick off the beat.... SKeNG

Can't remember when I first heard this tune...

But i went insane....

It then arrived in the post on "white label" about a year ago... and the first time I played it was at The End for the Brownswood Are One gig we did.

... most notably I played it at the Worldwide Festival Beach After Party business...

and my copy of The Bugs Album "London Zoo" was duly ripped out of my hand by none other than Laurent Garnier.

I hope he's been playing it?

I did wonder why this hasn't been a bigger hit, or received acroos the board radio coverage...?!

and then...? Dean told me "Skeng" means "Gun"....

So?

That'd be why...!!!

Let it remain an underground killer (excuse the pun...!!) and let it be known that I in no way endorse the message... but completely endorse the bass-line.

AwFUL...

After spending the day with Vladamir the hamster going through a broken back scare with Barbara the Rabbit...

I dropped into Leons to catch Arsenal slick it up, and then Man U give the world a lesson in football...

Then..!! The Music of Black Origin Awards came on..

I know it's somewhat of a cliche to rip into the MOBO's...

But it hurts.. John Legend to kick it'off with an awful track.. "Run" or summink... AwFUL

Mel B... AwFUL... Too much skin shine and plastic tits..!!

Reverend Run... AwFUL.. AWFUL.. AWFUL...

Gael Clichy... I can't take you seriously anymore.. I can't!!

Estelle...!! PLEASE..!!

Don't let them interview you before the make up's on..!! No!!

Don't call yourself out in Wembley Arena on International broadcast and try and spin a lickle acapella then let the track run with your uber produced vocals...!!

AWFUL..!!

and then I left Leons house..!!

dancing on Mondays...

Photobucket
It's been a little while... in fact quite a while.

It's not been down to laziness.. I promise!!

It's been down to a pure LACK of sleep.

Since the last time, i think i've Dj'd in Poland, Cardiff, London and Brussels. Possibly a couple of other places.

Can't remember..?! Blogs and big up's comin'.

However..!!! The main reason why i haven't been bloggin' of late is because I've been trying to figure out how to convince people to dance on Mondays.

And?! I think I've come up with the answer...?!

Photobucket
Most of the guests will be in the friends and family column on the right ---->

Worldwide Underground.... starting Monday 13th October at the new Bar Rumba and every Monday until the world implodes.. and then maybe we'll still keep grooving.
