Depends Who's invading Who?

Gotta respect The Prodigy....

New Album of the same name "Invaders Must Die" is on it's way.

Pushing the boundaries of British Punk Electronic Dance Music further and further...!!

Even some space on the video for the dude from Kidult / Adulthood - Noel Clarke, I read somewhere that he's the "new British Will Smith"....?

Hunger

Transformation

Yesterday America took a proud step...

In accepting a Black man as President, America realized the idea that the the window of opportunity is open to ALL men and women.

and I've got to say thank you for that.

As the election drew closer, and it became clear that another Republican term at the White House with Senator McCain and Palin at the helm would have disastrous effects on the world.

The election became less for me about the colour of Barack Obamas' skin... but a transformation of power from the elite to the masses.

The record high turnout, and the resulting landslide victory signified for me, that the opinion of the masses does count.... the reality that has become of fighting wars, committing local and international crimes in the name of a non-consenting society has been repelled.

the revolution will be visualized....

I've always had a problem identifying with the Black Panthers. In no way can I condone or be comfortable associating myself or beliefs with a group that fights their struggle with violence.

In fact i purposefully shy away from Malcolm X quotes and reading about the Black Panthers.

However I was given this book - Black Panther : The Revolutionary Art of Emory Douglas

....and my opposition to the Blank Panther movement softened.

NO I'm not condoning the violence... but I do understand their mission a bit more.

It's hard to imagine the appalling inequality that existed no more than 50 years ago, when slavery was outlawed, segregation was the law in some states and 'Negroes' were still being hung or even burnt for their skin colour.

Douglas' imagery is distinctive, eye catching, militant and carries a message that defined a movement that has enabled us to live in a world where we are potentially a week away from Barack Obama becoming President of the United States.

His work is a poignant reminder of how far the social integrity of the world has moved.

A history lesson...

.... that still carries a message for today.

Black Panther: Emory Douglas and the Art of Revolution is now showing at Manchester's Urbis Centre until March '09...

Lick off the beat.... SKeNG

Can't remember when I first heard this tune...

But i went insane....

It then arrived in the post on "white label" about a year ago... and the first time I played it was at The End for the Brownswood Are One gig we did.

... most notably I played it at the Worldwide Festival Beach After Party business...

and my copy of The Bugs Album "London Zoo" was duly ripped out of my hand by none other than Laurent Garnier.

I hope he's been playing it?

I did wonder why this hasn't been a bigger hit, or received acroos the board radio coverage...?!

and then...? Dean told me "Skeng" means "Gun"....

So?

That'd be why...!!!

Let it remain an underground killer (excuse the pun...!!) and let it be known that I in no way endorse the message... but completely endorse the bass-line.

AwFUL...

After spending the day with Vladamir the hamster going through a broken back scare with Barbara the Rabbit...

I dropped into Leons to catch Arsenal slick it up, and then Man U give the world a lesson in football...

Then..!! The Music of Black Origin Awards came on..

I know it's somewhat of a cliche to rip into the MOBO's...

But it hurts.. John Legend to kick it'off with an awful track.. "Run" or summink... AwFUL

Mel B... AwFUL... Too much skin shine and plastic tits..!!

Reverend Run... AwFUL.. AWFUL.. AWFUL...

Gael Clichy... I can't take you seriously anymore.. I can't!!

Estelle...!! PLEASE..!!

Don't let them interview you before the make up's on..!! No!!

Don't call yourself out in Wembley Arena on International broadcast and try and spin a lickle acapella then let the track run with your uber produced vocals...!!

AWFUL..!!

and then I left Leons house..!!

dancing on Mondays...

Photobucket
It's been a little while... in fact quite a while.

It's not been down to laziness.. I promise!!

It's been down to a pure LACK of sleep.

Since the last time, i think i've Dj'd in Poland, Cardiff, London and Brussels. Possibly a couple of other places.

Can't remember..?! Blogs and big up's comin'.

However..!!! The main reason why i haven't been bloggin' of late is because I've been trying to figure out how to convince people to dance on Mondays.

And?! I think I've come up with the answer...?!

Photobucket
Most of the guests will be in the friends and family column on the right ---->

Worldwide Underground.... starting Monday 13th October at the new Bar Rumba and every Monday until the world implodes.. and then maybe we'll still keep grooving.

"you don't have to sing!! Just move your mouth n'shit..."

As cold starts to sharpen...!! I'm really starting to feel the idea of watching video's on my laptop.

This one's good for a Sunday afternoon with the the hangover or if your stuck in bed with a cold...!!!

Apparently "video killed the radio star...!!"

This is a cutting insight into why and how the music industry has alienated itself from the art and transformed into the commerce.

Here's the trailer, so you can check it before you get fully involved.

featuring Erykah Badu, ?uestlove and Eric Clapton,

Let's hope the music doesn't die... In fact it's not. It's just rearing it's head in a different way innt...!!

Independence...!!!

Shout to Lefto for the heads up on this one...

reasonable wigflip....

Came out to chill with the Sophie'dem in Brussels for a week.

It was no car day on Sunday in Brussels (no cars on road... NiCE!!) So went out at met up with Lefto at the Royal Park where they put down fake grass and had a kinda farm day in the Royal Court!!!

.... and when we got back to the flat they were having a mini festival in the square outside Sophie'demz flat.

After this, they all gathered together had a meal.... and then they played a Silent Movie on giant screen while some dude free-styled on the piano to the film...... how bad boy is that?!

Forgot my phone in London, so my only contact outside the flat land is from within my laptop.

You don't need to to be a G to realize that I consider Madlib to be the King of Hip Hop.... and Stonesthrow to be the truest of the true.

So when I woke up to this yesterday I was erm...?!

Happy!!

Stonesthrow Podcast 38

J Rocc - The Funky President takes over the controls at WLIB AM for 30 minutes, and treats us to a load of delights from the Beat Konducta himself.

Make sure you check out the last in the Beat Kondukta series (which has encompassed albums from The Dilla, Pete Rock). It's out soon on BBE

From my King of Hip Hop, to.. i suppose?! my King of Rap....

I had quite a big disagreement with Jay - Z when he released that album after "The Black Album"

... well? it wasn't a personal disagreement!!! I don't know the dude.

But I hated on him...? and I still have a slight bit of angst angled towards the dude.

But...?! It seems like he might be coming out the other side...?! I thought the way he handled the attention at Glastonbury was dope..!!

"that bloke from Oasis said I couldn't play guitar,
somebody shoulda told him i'm a fucking rock star..."

and well..?! He's making "The Blueprint 3"...

"The Blueprint" is up there as one of my favourite albums, and as much as I hate Kanye... I do like his beats (mostly..?! Well? One or two off every album!!!)

So they're teaming up again... Just like the old days and the hopefully take us back to when we were all making little "Roc" signs in appreciation of Roc-A-Fella records.

All I Need
Blueprint (Momma Loves Me)
wait for the bonus track
"Breathe Easy"

CLASSIC SHITZ!!

both taken fron "The BluePrint"

take an hour out and check this... The EPK for Jay-Z's first album "Reasonable Doubt"

Electric Boogaloo

so long 25.... it's been fun.

Kinda feels like New Years eve without feeling the need to empty my wallet into some dry celebration...!!!

I've been oiling my parts and attempting to sharpen (make less blunt..!!) my robotic dance skills...

and therefore found myself in....The Danger Zone, The Jacking Zone, The World Class Wrecking Crew, The Megatrons and fancying myself as an Egyptian Lover!!!!

Arabian Prince - Innovative Life

Out now from the mans 'dem at Stonesthrow. It comes with a 16 page booklet with a history of west coast hip-hop & electro and Arabian Prince history...

He was one of the founding members of N.W.A.... respect!!

Heads up to the cats at MissingToof...

Been holding out on this one for a while... and claiming the credit on the dance floor.

But seeing as tho' it's the end of something and the beggining of everything i thought i'd? Well? Y'Know...!!!

Be nice.

finding the original...

It's always fun. Especially when your a Hip Hop kid like me, thats where most of my reference came from... innit!!

Timbaland and Magoo - Indian Flute.... Rinsed the last embers of this tune back in the day. Need to dig it out!!

This sounds even better... to be honest it was only the sample that i liked.

Totó La Momposina - Cururá

popped up on JazzFunkGreats.

This one's just dropped....

I Like it Like That (Fania)

Been spinnin' a few off this one for a while now.. pretending they're rare little remixes!!

The secret's out!!! The Louie Vega (Master at Work) refix of wicked Hector Lavoe track "Mi Gente", and the Bugz in The Attic re-rub of "Plastico" is essential record box material.

You might even recognize the Nono Morales track that was on Gilles' myspace a little while back...?!

This cd gave me an unavoidable spasm to find the originals....

They are now hidden deep in the box... definite Ace's within the pack.

Ruben Blades - Plastico

Hector Lavoe - Mi Gente

might do one of those 'riginal vs rerub mixes at East Village on Saturday.

It was nice knowing you.... The End Club

It took ages trying to come up with some kinda whack cliche or some clever arse title for this post.

But well it ended up being quite self explanatory....

Respect goes out to Mr C and The End crew... so long!!

Quite hard to write an obituary on summink you weren't a big fan of in the first place.

The End was quite a non-entity for me. Haven't had a good time in there once, and for me it's a pale comparison to Fabric (but respect the fact that they were there first.)

I don't know what my problem is with The End. Maybe the penny hasn't dropped at the right time for me in there.... or maybe i have gruesome memories of waiting in the que* for 3 hours.

I think The End made me realize that I need to be in the guest list que*.

.... and there's always a few too many people who are a little too mash up!!

BUT....!! That said i haven't been there more than 10 times and it gave me my first opportunity to play at a super club.... which was fun!!

I've also gotta respect the fact that they had some wicked line ups and that they have definitely fueled the clubbing scene in London if not the world.

The choice in London is becoming quite limited....

If you haven't checked out The Ends recently renovated website then go check it.

www.theendclub.com

Loads of mixes on there from EVERYONE. No suprise in the fact that I've been listening to loads of the Laurent Garnier mixes recently.... but there's also interviews with amongst a load of others Roots Manuva.

and...!! Free mp3's on their The End Reccomends bit. Where Jose James was featured in the first volume.

So...? Are they gonna keep this shitz goin' now that they've got a very nice looking cheque from the developers in their sky rocket.

Coz that a good look...

.... like Robinho at Man City

.... unlike no new midfielders at Arsenal

* Brain freeze... help me out!!

secret weapons...

It's never really advisable to reveal your secret weapons, but I haven't revealed this one in any manner, shape or form... unless absolutely necessary!!!

So i suppose this qualifies as me revealing my hand now...?!

Am I making any sense...? Didn't think so.

Been checkin' Beat Electric quite bit recently. Spent a very happy couple of hours downloading their recommendations.

"Risque Rythum Team - The Jacking Zone"

It's quite self explanatory reeally...? Into doogie, disco and electric funk? Then put aside a couple of hours and sift through their archives.

Maybe i'll spin a few on Friday for this BBE party that I know nothing about... But apparently ?uestlove, Gilles Peterson (he told me about it...!!), Madlib and Kon & Amir will be spinnin' as well.

Will let you know more.... when i do?

Feelin' these

Maybe i'll adopt these as a secret weapon, and hold 'em out for those occasions when the footwear counts.

Think it's about time Arsene Wenger revealed his secret weapons?

across town...

It's always kinda nice doing gigs in South London, then racing back to London in either Deans car or an Addison Lee cab... especially if there's another party waitin at the other end...

Happy Birthday Rowan..!! Was fun playin' a few tunes for your celebrations down in Dulwich. Didn't quite have enough time to fit in all the requests... but fun all the same.

The journey started with me and Dan aka The Yung But Wize Dj pushing the cab.. (hadn't even left my road yet).

I finally switched when we were helpin' him jump start and he flicked into reverse for the FOURTH time...!!!

Lindsay found it quite amusing...!! and my neighbours (who hate the fact that i'm a dj..!!)

Really enjoyed droppin' in on Scarlett & Viva's mini-warehouse party above the snooker hall opposite Perfect Fried Chicken on Mare Street....!!

The Chif did his Clown Prince ting... and mashed up the tribal ting 'rignal tribesman... innit..?

Check his new Amy Winehouse video, not really sure if I like it or not... But then I never am with Lekes' little mad hatter tings..?!

Gotta love Hackney!! Fuck the Olympics...... We're REAL bitches.

Respect to Pete & Johnny from Man Like Me... Can't believe Pete listens' to my radio show (I can't believe anyone does....

Missed out on NyLo at Cargo and The All End Up party... waitin' for the reports to surface.

Just checkin' out Mista Jams' cover for Gilles' Show this week. RESPECT...!!! Jumped in last minute because Ras Kwame had an unavoidable issue to deal with.

Opening with Gil Scott Heron – Angel Dust’ (Strata East)" and into The Game ft Common – ‘Angel Dust’ (White), it's kinda refreshing to hear that traditional RnB, Bashment, Soulful selecta'.. Haven't checked out the bits from the Game... Maybe i will? This didn't sound too bad. But then?! I fuckin' hate The Game..!!

Haven't got there yet, but he played Chase & Status – 'Eastern Jam' (RAM Records)", need to get a phat mp3 or .wav of this one..!! My one's completely fucked. Played it the other day without testing it. Sounded AWFUL......!!!!

FEELIN' the Reggae mix...!!! some nice jams from The Abyssinians and Eek-A-Mouse... AMAZING!!! Was havin' a smoke with Skeete/Leon/Maximus/I.N.I the other day listening to the same kinda shitz. A shame he did it on Serato, reggae & dub outta mp3's? It pains me enough to listen dub on cd.... not really feelin' that too tuff. Respect Nevertheless.... Might have to get the mix off Beccy, and stick up a sneaky little podcast somewhere...?! (I didn't say that..!!)

Been checkin' the MadDecent blog quite a bit recently, since Diplo, Switch and M.I.A came into the studio, check Gilles' show on Wednesday. Loadsa fun on there including this track....

Santogold - Starstruck (Diplo Remix)

This is a BIG ONE...!! In the record box right now.. One of those one's that everyones' a little lost when it starts to drop.

Been gettin' into this stuff quite a bit recently... Big Up Sophie...!! xxxx from Clapton -> Brussels...!!

Think i'm gonna be out there soon to check out the JazzBreak cats...

Mos Def's back, after what is now a standardly long break... Mos Def - The Glow

new video (think this is the first?) from Flying Lotus' album 'Los Angeles'.

This is by far my favorite track on a very good album, and it's kinda pleasin' that the video suits the fit.

Solange Knowles aka Sol Angel

but then it wasn't really like that.

That was 45 minutes after an impromtu 3 hour record shop with Theo Parrish... oh? and we went window shoppin' for classic cars. Well? He did!!
